For most of my sewing life I have made do with a dinning room table (being extra careful not to scratch the mahogany surface with my pins!) or a small desk in my student room and then in the corner of my lounge in my little one bedroom flat. When I did have the luxury of having a WHOLE ROOM just for crafting (well actually it was meant to be a music room too...!) I filled it with so much clutter I didn't even know what I had in there!
I am not a naturally organised person! As I have customers visiting regularly in the Crafty Sew&So studio I do try to keep the place looking relatively tidy and recently made some changes which have made a huge difference- these included buying some fab Ikea metal draws- just big enough to hold what they need too but not too big that I'm tempted to put more than one type of thing in them. so now i have a drawer for tape measures, one for glue and one just for pencils! It makes it so much easier to grab the right thing!
I'm also having a BIG CLEAROUT! I'll be hosting a studio sale at the end on July to sell off a lot of fabrics, trims and equipment which is still in good nic and nice and all but all these unused materials are cluttering my creativity! here will be bargains to be had... So watch this space!
Having said that though It's also really important to have things around you which inspire you. Rosie's floating shelves are packed full of her own and other's textile art and collected objects. It's all about curating your own workspace and deciding what you want to be surrounded by. All of Rosie's objects and artifacts have their own stories, some of which Rosie shared with me, and the rest which I'm looking forward to her sharing at my next visit!
