Introducing the Homebody Joggers

The homebody joggers are what we've all needed recently, a comfy, cosy pair of trousers we can wear at home or out and about.

Features and Variations

The Homebody Joggers include nice, deep pockets a comfortable waistband with thick 38mm elastic and an ankle cuff.  The simplicity of this pattern lends its self to endless variations too!  We love a pattern you can use over and over and really make your own.

For example, you can make the Homebody Joggers all in once colour, which looks sleek and streamlined.  OR, you can play with your fabrics and use contrast colours to make a feature out of the pockets or the cuffs.  This a great opportunity to add something special to your joggers and make them truly unique.  It's also a chance to use some some smaller pieces of fabric and do some scrap busting!

The joggers have a relaxed leg, and testers who have fallen between sizes found they can choose between sewing the smaller size for a more streamlined fitted look, or the larger size for a more relaxed, baggy style.  You can make both for yourself and see which you prefer!

Tutorials and Resources on the blog

As well as the beautiful, full colour photo instructions included with the pattern as a PDF, over on the My Handmade Wardrobe Patterns Website, you will find a huge amount of resources to help you learn how to sew your own clothes.  For this pattern we have included blog posts which guide you through making perfect button holes, sewing heavy weight jersey fabrics and preparing your pattern for sewing.

We also will be publishing guides with different ways you can finish the waist band, with or without button holes, using ribbing for the cuffs, turning the joggers in to shorts and leaving the cuff open for a totally different style.

This pattern is going to have so many ways to sew it, you will be able to sew 10 different pairs!

Choosing the Right Fabric

We recommend a stable stretch fabric with approx. 20 – 50% two-way stretch for this pattern. Suitable fabrics include: Sweatshirt, fleece, velour and French terry. An elastane mix fabric will prevent your joggers from going baggy during wear and if you are using a fabric with elastane in the mix, you can size down for a more streamlined look.

We stock a range of sweat shirting fabrics, all of which work beautifully as joggers.  And you don't have to stick to plain fabrics!  Why not pick a fun print and really go to town with making a pair of joggers as unique as you are

Sewing the Right Size

One of the main reasons to make your own clothes is to get garments to fit properly, so the first step is to choose the correct pattern size.  In order to determine what pattern size to cut out you will need to take some measurements. Take these wearing the underwear you would normally wear, and hold the tape measure comfortably snug, but not tight to your body. Ask for help from a sewing buddy if you can.

sizing the homebody joggers

For the Homebody Joggers you will need to take two measurements, your waist and your hips.  In the instructions you will fine advice for how to do so accurately and a chart to jot down your measurements for reference. For this pattern we've also included key measurements you don't often find in patterns, the calf measurement and the crotch depth.  They're there to help you feel confident that you are making the right size for your body.

This pattern is sized from XS to XXL. Our size range fits from a waist 66cm or 26" to 109cm or 43".  Check the size chart below to choose the right size for you.

A Huge Thanks

This, or any of our patterns, would not be possible without the love, support and advice of our wonderful team of testers, lead by Emma.  A big thank you, as we wouldn't be here, launching the pattern without you.

A big thank you to Mat, Sarah's husband and graphics wizz, who makes the instructions booklets look so beautiful.

Thank you to Kim, for her cheerleading, encouragement and proof reading skills.  Thank you to Emma (again), Zareen, Tracy and Carly for sampling and modelling for us.

It takes a whole team of wonderful people to produce our patterns and we really couldn't do it with out you!
